Dear Friend of the Sacred Heart,

On the Feast of the Sacred Heart in 2009, our Holy Father dedicated the following year as a Year for Priests. He said that this feast has traditionally been dedicated to prayer for the spiritual welfare of priests, and so is an appropriate day to launch a year-long quest for the spiritual revival of priests. Pope Benedict cited the words of the Curé of Ars to summarize the central theme for the coming year: “The priesthood is the love of the Heart of Jesus.”

With this in mind, I am pleased to announce a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in November of 2010 as a way to promote spiritual growth and the “love of the Heart of Jesus.” I hope you share with me a strong desire to go personally to pray in those sacred places where Jesus lived. These Holy Lands, from the Old to the New Testament, have seen God's interventions, which culminate in the mysteries of the Incarnation, Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ. What an extraordinary opportunity to see the places where Jesus proclaimed the Good News of His Reign! This 10 day pilgrimage will include Mass each day. A tour guide will explain the historical significance of the places we visit, including the Old City of Jerusalem. I invite you to join me on this very special spiritual journey!
