NEW MISSION IN ANGOLA
At the urgent request of the Archbishop of Luanda, the Priests of the Sacred Heart began a new mission in the African country of Angola. He gave the community Holy Rosary Parish which is located at "Kilometer 9" in Luanda.
To date, four Italian SCJs have been sent to serve this mission. The parish is spread out over a large area and the population is dense. Fortunately, the parish is also served by the Sisters of Saint Catherine of Siena.
For the time being, our priests reside in a School run by the Dominican Sisters. A house with four rooms will be built as soon as the purchase of land can be finalized. The owner of the land wants to be paid, but until the local government approves the sale, we do not want to move forward. The SCJ community is already in contact with contractors.
Another mission in Angola will be at Luau in the Diocese of Luena. The Diocese is working on fixing the living quarters for the missionaries who will work there. The Medical Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception also serve this parish
Our Missions in Angola are truly a work of the entire Congregation. Missionaries from Italy, Portugal, Mozambique, and Brazil will arrive in 2005. Also expected in the future are missionaries from the Congo and Cameroon.
